Bly and Venus
Here Alfred Stieglitz captures the likeness of a gardener from his family estate at Lake George in a moment of plain, unbrokered joy. Looking into the distance with a mischievous twinkle in his eyes, Bly apperas curious and kind. Stieglitz's inclusion of the marble sculpture of Venus reflects upon the different way we've portrayed the people through the ages, as well as grounding Bly in reality.
