Leaf type: Deciduous, opposite, widely elliptic or ovate in shape, upper surface is a light to dark green and lower surface is paler in color with short pubescent hairs.
Bloom description: Small, greenish white to light purple, bell-shaped flowers. Pink or redish purple berries in September-October.
Garden uses: Great for erosion control along slopes or embankments. Fairly drought tolerant which makes it a great plant for tough sites. Berries provide winter interest in the landscape.
Wildlife benefits: Berries provide food for songbirds, ground birds, and small mammals. Supports native pollinators.
