Annie Oakley: Little Sure Shot

Sharpshooter Annie Oakley, or “Little Sure Shot,” was a celebrity in her day and has since become a Wild West legend. Included here are posters of Buffalo Bill's Wild West show, photographs of Oakley’s fellow show members, and documents from her home in Nutley, New Jersey. This memorabilia is set against a crumpled American flag that resembles the outline of the United States. Gary Thomas Erbe’s realistic approach harkens back to the tradition of trompe l’oeil painting, meaning to “trick the eye.”
