Untitled (Dandelion from the Hilton Hotel, Denver, Colorado)

Made of stainless steel and towering above guests at over 11 feet tall, Harry Bertoia’s work enlarges a common weed to monumental proportions. Even though the size and media are altered, the symmetry and simplicity of the dandelion’s form are not changed because Bertoia believed these aspects to be perfect. This dandelion, originally commissioned for a hotel bar, was Bertoia’s first in a series celebrating this common flower. The sculptor often used the beauty of nature as his starting point, but always strove to uniquely transform it.
